The Event Film

A cinematic immersion that captures the significant moments of the territories in the Rum Ecosystem.

The Otahiti Cane from French Polynesia

The 52-minute documentary on Otahiti cane begins with a historical section during which the audience learns that sugarcane, one of the most planted plants in the world along with wheat, corn, and rice, has been known since prehistoric times and is believed to originate from New Guinea or Southeast Asia.

Ten years ago, Marotea Vitrac took on the challenge of producing quality agricultural rum in Tahiti, French Polynesia. He started with one hectare of plantation and realized the diversity of sugarcane varieties growing there.

In 2017, he began a thesis with UPF and CIRAD on Otahiti cane to learn more about this plant that Polynesian ancestors brought with them on their extraordinary journeys across the Pacific.

The setting of this adventure is more than just a backdrop: Polynesia with its enchanting beauty, in all its splendor, as four archipelagos of French Polynesia will be on screen and even more with Hawaii...

But above all, Polynesian men and women with their strong character, men who work with the land, with science to develop a Country from their roots.
